I view birth as a profound & powerful rite of passage–of body, mind and spirit. My goal is to assist you in giving birth in the way which facilitates your empowerment, healing and transformation. I believe that every woman deserves support for making informed choices about what is best for her body and baby according to her own values and beliefs.
A woman will birth easiest where she feels most safe and comfortable. There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ ways to give birth. I work with my clients to help them to clarify their preferences and desires, assisting them in creating the experience they want.
BIRTH DOULA SERVICES
I believe that a woman’s body is designed to birth her baby. By tuning into your body’s wisdom and the messages you receive from your baby growing within, you are laying a foundation of trust from which to identify your deepest values and visualize the birth you wish to have.
Before the birth
In addition to a free initial consultation, 2 prenatal visits (time permitting) are included in my fee. We’ll use this time to get to know each other and talk about your preferences for your birth and to answer any questions about pregnancy, labor and postpartum. I attend births at home, hospital or birth center.
I offer unlimited telephone and email contact during your pregnancy and postpartum. I am on call for your birth 24/7 from your 38th week of pregnancy until your baby is born.
Labor and Birth
I prefer that you call me when you think you are in labor, even if you do not yet need me. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. We will decide if I should come right then or wait for further change. As soon as you feel you need me, I will come to your home or meet you at your place of birth. I offer uninterrupted support during your labor and birth.
During labor, I will provide physical comfort measures, such as massage and/or Reiki, suggestions for position changes, relaxation techniques, emotional support and encouragement. I’ll provide informational support, answering questions about anything that comes up in labor and facilitating communication between you and your care providers so that you are clear about your options.
After the birth
I will remain with you in the immediate postpartum, until you and your baby are settled. I can assist with initial breastfeeding if needed. I’ll visit you within the first week postpartum to check in and provide any referrals you might need. Doula services include phone and email support for the first year postpartum.
