Philosophy

I believe that every woman knows what is best for her body and baby.  As a doula, I respect the choices that women and their families make. My role as your doula is to support your process in whatever way is called upon in the moment.  I do not replace your partner (if present); rather, I am part of the birthing team.  I do not have an agenda nor do I make decisions for you.  As your doula, I offer unconditional support and non-judgmental guidance while assuring you have informed choice about all aspects of your care. I attend births in the hospital, at home, and in birthing centers.

Prenatal

Call or email me to set up a free interview. We will take this time get to know each other a little better and discuss any questions you have about my services. The interview usually takes about an hour.

Home visits support you and your family in preparing for the birth by helping you clarify your wishes while addressing any areas of concern. This may include writing a birth plan as a tool for communication with your care provider.  We will also discuss how to prepare for a smooth postpartum. Plan for approximately 2 hours per visit.  I am available to answer any questions by phone or email at any time during your pregnancy.

Labor & Birth

I prefer that you call me when you think you are in labor, even if you do not yet need me. I can answer questions and make suggestions over the phone. We will decide if I should come right then or wait for further change.  When you are ready for me,  I will come to your home or meet you at your place of birth. I offer uninterrupted support during your labor and birth.

During labor I provide comfort measures such as massage, suggestions for position changes, relaxation techniques, encouragement and emotional support. I’ll answer questions and facilitate communication between you and your care providers so that you are clear about your options. I strive to hold a sacred space that allows you to go deep within your process of labor and birth.

Postpartum

I will remain with you in the immediate postpartum until you and your new family are settled. I can assist with initial breastfeeding if needed. I’ll visit you within the first two weeks postpartum to check-in, discuss the labor/birth and answer any questions you might have.  Doula services include phone or email support through the first year postpartum.  Extra visits are available for an additional fee.
